Verum Terra Geoscience Inc. sponsored the first-ever Inter-Barangay Sports Festival in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, bringing together over 800 athletes from 15 barangays for three days of friendly competition and community celebration. The festival, organized in coordination with the Municipal Youth and Sports Development Council, showcased the athletic talent and sportsmanship of the region’s youth.
The festival featured a diverse lineup of sporting events catering to various age groups and skill levels:
While the sports festival emphasized athletic achievement, it was equally designed to strengthen social bonds among communities that are geographically dispersed across the municipality. The three-day event included communal meals, cultural performances, and a closing ceremony that recognized not only winners but also participants who demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship.
A youth leader from one of the participating barangays commented: “We rarely get the chance to compete with and meet young people from other barangays. This festival gave us a chance to form new friendships and learn from each other. We hope it becomes an annual tradition.”
Verum Terra views youth sports development as a vital component of community well-being. Physical activity promotes health, discipline, teamwork, and leadership — qualities that contribute to the holistic development of young people. The company has pledged to make the sports festival an annual event and is exploring partnerships with national sports federations to provide coaching clinics and equipment donations to community sports programs.
